It is the time of year when soothsayers, fortune-tellers, oracles, palm readers, diviners, mediums, Horoscope writers and Chinese Feng-Shui “experts” come out from wherever they hide for most of the year and throw in their two cents worth of what they think will happen in the next twelve months.
It’s all in good fun I know and I’m not that big of a butt hurt to pee on harmless fiddling with our supposed destinies but, there are people existing today who actually 100% unfailingly, dedicatedly believe in this unbased claptrap. And not just a few but an entire civilization lived for 2000 years (up to now) thrived on the wisdom of nothing more than casual observation of the night heavens, a rich cultural story, and guesswork.
Feeding an entire industry based on the legend of the twelve heavenly creatures whose market spikes dramatically during the first two months of the year. From sculptures to paintings to beaded jewelry to (yes) predictions. I should say again that I’m not against any of this. If some people want to spend their har earned money buying superficial oddities that they think will grant them wealth or protection it’s really none of my business. But if the vendors of the trade are gaining indecent amounts of money not only for their sold items but for ehat they think is going to happen across a period when no one will even remember what they said in the first place then I should say count me in!
What harm is there to cast a few predictions of my own? Who knows, I may even be good at it and earn some cash. So (following the basic techniques of fortune telling) here goes. Ten predictions for 2012:
1. The country will be plauged with difficult weather
2. An important politician or celebrity will die…sometime in the year.
3. Something good will happen…eventually.
4. Business will soar for motels in the coming month.
5. A new, more hi-tech gadget will come out.
6. You will be attracted to a handsome or beautiful stranger
7. You may experience an imrpovement in your workplace.
8. Your health will continue the way its going now.
9. A person you know will be involved in an accident.
10. You will continue reading this blog for the rest of the year.
There you go! My first attempt at predicting the future. I think I may have done fairly well. How many will come true? All of it, probably.
